Fubo Hill is one of the three most significant hills around the city of Guilin, Guangxi Province, southern China, alongside with the Solitary Beauty Peak and Diecai Hill.

The hill is more like one gargantuan piece of rock standing at the crossing between the Binjiang Road and Fengbei Road, at the northeastern corner of the city of Guilin, with the remarkable Lijiang running right by the foot of it. Fubo in fact can be translated as “subduing the waves” in Chinese, which was used to name a kind of royal title in the ancient times, usually honoring outstanding, excellent generals of the military, for their great contributions during the wartimes. The most eminent Fubo General of all time would be the General Ma Yuan from the Eastern Han Dynasty. According to the recorded history, he once passed by this place on the way of his southbound expedition, hence the hill was named Fubo Hill. There is still a pavilion named Fubo Pavilion on the hill commemorating this prominent general.
But the most thrilling feature on the hill should be the Thousand Buddha Rock, which is actually a section of the cliff face divided into three platforms. The upper one is extending 6 meter in length, 7.5m in width and 12m in height. The middle one is basically the same size to the upper one but only measuring 2.3 meter in height, while the lower one extends 20 meter from north to south and 1.5m from west to east, measuring 2 meter in height. Over these platforms, about 240 Buddha statues and figurines of various postures and sizes are carved out from 36 caves or caverns. The statues are very deliberately made, some even with the specific time of production, and words beside it. The oldest one among these figures is believed to be dating back to more than 1,140 years ago.
Other renowned sites on the Fubo Hill include the Huanzhu Cave, Guishui Pavilion, Zhengxia Hall, Shijianshi (Sword-testing Rock), and one gigantic steel pot used to be the cooking tool for the 1,000 monks residing in the Dingyue Temple on the hill, and one 2.7 ton bronze bell etc.
